You may be wondering where you would normally use explosion proof fixtures. These are referred to as Class 1 Locations. All fixtures that meet requirements for installation in these facilities need to carry a Class 1 rating.
Class 1 is also broken up into two divisions, Div 1 and Div 2. Div 1 refers to areas where ignitable, flammable, or combustible concentrations are likely to be present. Div 2 refers to those areas within these facilities where these elements are present but are sealed and contained, and not in concentrations high enough to be ignitable.
